Saturday night, November 10th, Marc surprised me with tickets to see Boston Symphony Orchestra play Berg and Mahler. What a fantastic surprise! We'd been talking about seeing the BSO for a while, so I was really excited! Unfortunately, the night didn't turn out quite as planned...
Marc had started feeling sick a couple days earlier, and was sleeping a lot and trying to get better. He felt alright Saturday afternoon, so we decided to still go. The concert was great, very moving! After we left Symphony Hall, we went to take the train home. While we were waiting for the train, Marc started feeling strange. All the sudden, he turned completely white, and then fainted in my arms. I wasn't strong enough to hold him up, so he fell straight back, and hit his head really hard on the brick sidewalk. I got really scared and started screaming for help. Just as the woman who works for the metro came up, he was coming to, and sitting up. She said we should go to the hospital, or she'd call an ambulance for us. But Marc wouldn't have it. He thought he had just fallen asleep, and found it very silly that she wanted to get him an ambulance. I finally convinced him he needed to get checked out, just in case he'd gotten a concussion. So we took the train one stop over to Mass General Hospital. We then spent 4 hours in the Emergency Department, to make sure everything was OK. We saw/heard some rather funny things. This one lady, apparently schizophrenic, kept yelling at the top of her lungs "Get the hell away from me! Why are you touching me?" It was actually kind of funny. So, after many tests, some blood work, and even an ecocardiogram, it turns out he was just dehydrated, from being sick, and probably had not had enough to eat that day. They told him to go home and get some rest, and sent us on our way.
What an eventful night! Needless to say, we were the best dressed couple in the ER that night!
